Tougaloo College didn’t start off as a college. Originally Tougaloo was a slave plantation before being bought by the American Missionary Association of New York. The AMA purchased 500 acres of land from John Boddie. The plan was for the AMA to buy this land to train young people who were born into slavery. Currently Tougaloo College is doing a research called the Boddie Plantation research project. The project main purpose is to uncover historical information about the Boddie plantation and surrounding community to create a digital archive. The digital archive will document the history slave culture and society of that period of time.   Tougaloo College is is more than just a training place for young People. Current time Tougaloo College is a home away from home. This college equips you with knowledge skills and family. Tougaloo has a great staff and the professors work hand in hand with the students. Tougaloo transforms lives and also elevates the student mind.
